Baja Bound
A custom WordPress redesign for a nonprofit ministry building homes with volunteer groups in Baja California, Mexico, since 1993.
A group of friends in San Diego started Baja Bound Ministries in 1993, with a vision to change lives on both sides of the border. Since 2004, Baja Bound has focused on immigrant families who come north to work the agricultural fields around Ensenada, 90 miles south of the city. Their model is straightforward: a team of 15 or more travels down, builds a 16-by-20 insulated home on a concrete slab, and hands the family the keys. The churches, schools, and other groups they host stay together at their basecamp on the coast, and many also serve at orphanages, shelters, and feeding programs nearby. Working alongside their Mexican partner association, Rumbo Al Valle de la Libertad, Baja Bound has built 1,507 homes, hosted 37,675 volunteers, and served 5,263 families in more than 30 years.
Website Design
We were honored to design Baja Bound’s new website, because we admire the way they bring groups to Ensenada to build safe homes for the families who need them. We built it on WordPress, and group leaders can use it to fill out an interest form, sign their Group Leader Agreement and reserve their lodging in the same step, and send in their trip payments. Their stories and news came across too, going back to 2008. Baja Bound’s staff make their own changes to the site, so we wrote clear labels and instructions into every section, to keep sharing a new family’s story simple for them.
Website Hosting & Maintenance
Baja Bound keeps their website on our hosting, and since group leaders rely on it in the weeks before their trip, we monitor it 24/7, look after its security, and make a backup every month. During business hours, we’re a phone call or an email away for their staff.
