Baja Bound

A custom WordPress redesign for a nonprofit ministry building homes with volunteer groups in Baja California, Mexico, since 1993.

01 — The Client

A week of building, a family's own home.

bajabound.org

Baja Bound Ministries is a 501(c)(3) ministry that began in 1993 with a group of San Diego friends and has focused since 2004 on immigrant families working the agricultural fields around Ensenada, 90 miles south of the city. Its model is straightforward: a group of 15 or more travels down for a week, builds a 16-by-20 insulated home on a concrete slab, and hands the family the keys. Churches, schools, businesses, and community groups host builds from a basecamp of seven houses a hundred yards from the Pacific, many also serving at local orphanages, churches, and shelters. Working alongside its Mexican partner association, Rumbo Al Valle de la Libertad, Baja Bound has built 1,507 homes, hosted 37,675 volunteers, and served 5,263 families in more than 30 years.

What we built together.

01

Website Design

We redesigned and rebuilt bajabound.org on a custom WordPress theme, replacing a Squarespace site the ministry had run since 2017. 18 pages, 85 Stories and News posts, and more than a thousand photographs came across, with the old gallery posts rebuilt as a filterable, lightbox-driven photo gallery. Everything the office touches week to week is editable in place: the three-step build explainer, the pricing cards, a people grid covering roughly 45 staff and partners, the story and news archives, and the fundraiser index. The Donorbox campaigns the ministry already ran now sit in blocks the office places itself — goal meter, donation form, and donor wall, wherever a campaign needs them. Four Gravity Forms carry the work of booking a build, from Stripe-backed trip payments with corporate matching-gift support to a group leader agreement signed electronically alongside a lodging reservation. The result is a site that walks a group leader from first inquiry to signed agreement, and lets the office publish a story or open a campaign the same afternoon.

Website Hosting & Maintenance

We host bajabound.org on managed WordPress infrastructure tuned for a nonprofit that takes payments and signed agreements online year-round. The hosting plan includes performance optimization, daily backups, security hardening, 24/7 monitoring, and direct support from our team. The site has to be fast and available when a group is preparing to travel — reserving lodging, signing an agreement, and sending trip payments.
