SafeHaven Humane Society
A custom WordPress website for a nonprofit animal shelter connecting pets in need with loving families across the mid-Willamette Valley since 1974.
SafeHaven Humane Society began in 1974, when a network of animal lovers came together as the Linn Humane Society to rescue abandoned and abused dogs and care for them in foster homes. They started taking in cats in 1993, and when frequent confusion with Linn County Animal Control led them to ask the community for a new name, they became SafeHaven Humane Society. Their nonprofit shelter in Tangent, Oregon, now serves the mid-Willamette Valley. They place dogs, cats, and small animals for adoption, and they support pet owners in the community with low-cost spay and neuter surgeries, wellness clinics, and a pet food pantry. In 2025, they found homes for 2,488 pets, and 1,755 volunteers gave SafeHaven 89,390 hours of their time.
Website Design
In 2020, SafeHaven Humane Society moved their website to a WordPress theme we developed for them, and in 2025 we redesigned it, working with them to make the site more user friendly and easier for their staff to edit. Through the theme’s page builder, their team can share the latest news and introduce each new Dog and Cat of the Week.
Anyone considering a new pet can see the dogs, cats, and small animals in SafeHaven’s care and click on any of them for their photos and story. Because the site builds the listings from the records the shelter keeps on each animal, no one on their staff has to update them by hand.
Website Hosting & Maintenance
SafeHaven Humane Society’s staff email Josh with their questions and requests, and we’ve hosted and maintained their website, adding a new site search after the 2025 redesign. A monthly backup lets us restore the site if anything goes wrong, and we make the WordPress and plugin updates, keeping it ready for the adopters, volunteers, and donors who help SafeHaven do their good work.

Josh worked with us to create a brand new website from scratch to make a site that was more user friendly and easy for us to edit! It turned out beautiful and does everything we asked for. Best part is, he is still able to host the site and is always so quick to answer any emails with questions or requests we may have. I really enjoy working with him and having him on our team!
