A custom WordPress website and brand identity for a kitchen and bathroom renovation contractor serving Iowa's Cedar Valley.

Nelson Home Renovation is a kitchen and bathroom renovation contractor serving Cedar Falls, Waterloo, and the smaller Cedar Valley towns of Janesville, Denver, Dike, Hudson, and Waverly. The business began as Nelson Home Repair, handling general maintenance and remodeling, until requests from customers and fellow contractors settled on the same two rooms — and the name changed to match. Owner and lead contractor Kyle Nelson started out building houses in Mount Vernon, Iowa during college, and later renovated four family homes in the Cedar Valley and Corvallis, Oregon while serving in full-time campus ministry with his wife Katie. His sister Deanna Hoffmann joined as office manager in 2024, and every job now runs through the same four steps: initial consultation, design and estimate, renovation, and a final walkthrough.

We designed and built nelsonhomerenovation.com on a custom WordPress theme for a contractor whose work sells on photographs and word of mouth. The site is assembled from purpose-built blocks rather than a page builder, so the office can lay out a page without touching code. The pages it actually changes are editable in place: the four-step process ladder, the starting-at pricing, the FAQ answers, and a full-bleed carousel of finished rooms. Completed jobs are filed under kitchen or bathroom in their own Projects content type, so the Recent Projects index filters without a reload. Each job gets a detail page with a scope-of-work list, a lightbox photo grid, a video walkthrough where there is one, and a link through to the next story. One bot-protected consultation request in Gravity Forms sits below the service, project, and pricing pages, and the call-to-action around it — heading, copy, phone line, and background — is set in one place rather than page by page. The theme emits the organization and breadcrumb structured data itself.
We host nelsonhomerenovation.com on managed WordPress infrastructure tuned for a two-room specialist whose next job usually starts with someone finding the site on a phone. The plan includes LiteSpeed caching behind a QUIC.cloud CDN, backups, security hardening, timely WordPress and plugin updates, and direct support from our team. The arrangement means the office can add a finished project or adjust a starting price without anyone thinking about caching, updates, or hosting — the work of a renovation company is on the job site, not in a dashboard.
We designed the Nelson Home Renovation identity in 2024, back when the business was still Nelson Home Repair and the mark had to work as a single black badge on a Squarespace site. The logo is a monogram — N, H, and R set around an X above a small house drawing — which now sits beside the company name in Jost at the top of every page. When the business narrowed to kitchens and bathrooms and took a new name, the mark carried over untouched and only the words beside it changed. The system around it stayed deliberately narrow: near-black type, a plain off-white ground, and a single red held back for buttons, links, and accents, so everything that asks for a click looks alike.
